Transmitting/Receiving [T/R’ing] has been a topic which
ebbs and flows in interest and concern. Because every one of us is different,
morontial and mortal, no two interactions between celestials and mortals are
identical. The T/R’ing process involves for some the literal hearing of words,
individually or by phrases, which they repeat. Some have seen words which they
read. Most are given concepts presented as pictures and thoughts and the
individual T/R’s mind is the blending and mixing place where the meeting of the
celestial communication uses the instrumentation of the mortal’s neurological
circuitry and mindal thought patterns. Always remember that the mind and the
brain are not the same. The mind uses the brain as an organ; but the mind is
far greater than even this most marvelous instrument…

In contact with Receivers/Transmitters, or as you may call them, channelers, it could be said that there really is no difference between these two supposed methods, or descriptions, of receiving celestial messages, other than that they are but names for the same or similar phenomena.
It is important to always bear in mind that both, human brains, and interacting minds, are “constructed” in endless variety. That there are genetic pre-dispositions for one to be alert to the “arrival” of other-than-one’s-own mind’s input into consciousness. And add to that the fact that in one’s maturing to an age where one is, in a broad sense, receptive to these spiritual jolts, reception also rests on a foundation of countless variations—not just nature, but also nurture and life experiences.
And so they are your midwayer cousins who are mostly the experts in determining what method of contact will work best, if at all. Your celestial teachers are totally dependent on the skills of your close relatives, the secondary midwayers, who determine in what fashion these… messages, lessons, teachings, programs, can best be transferred to your minds, and be of use to the individual, or be disseminated, from there on.
It is not at all an easy matter to find those who are receptive, and beyond that, it is not a logical assumption that these messages, these lessons, these teachings, will ever be passed onto others less equipped in their genetic/experiential make-up to become the recipients of what we convey by direction of our superiors.
I make it clear to you that at whatever level of mind this input is received, there are a number of prerequisites by which to measure its “realness” and values… having the ability in meditation, and in one’s spiritual make-up, to draw close to the Father, and having the willingness to share the Creator’s love for the many who will, grow because of, prosper by, profit from, the teachings that come their way, although be it through an intermediary.
There really is no difference between the T/R and those who learn from the “end product transcript”, compared to what there is between your midwayer cousins who must be at hand to transfer the celestials’ teachings to the minds of the T/Rs. You rely on the midwayers who, like you, are but a shackle in a lengthy chain of communications.
And perhaps it would be fair to say that those not yet ready for direct contact with us rely on the T/R to receive, as the celestials fully rely on the midwayers to disseminate the teachings to their human cousins.
Like you, I can view what goes on in this universe as the outworkings of a mighty corporation that has, through cooperation, only love, empathy, and watchcare as its valued end product.
I hope that our chat has to some
degree allayed your doubts about the accuracy of T/R’ing that so many have
doubts about, and, indeed, even fear.

I am Alana. Again, as Daniel has said, every connection that we make with you mortals results in a different experience. By this I do not suggest that experiences are totally different, no. There is much in common. But there is the fine edge of distinction between one connection and another.
When we say that it is best for the T/R to be out of the
way, this has often been misunderstood. Some people have assumed that this was
a wish for you to become a channel, a mere tube through which the information
flows, wholly unconscious and out of the process; an automaton, a robot, a
mouthpiece. However, that is not what we desire at all! This is an experience
of duality, partnership. We are providing the concepts, but you T/Rs are
providing the equipment, the thought processes, the memory banks. It is more or
less exceptional for a T/R to speak that which (s)he has no knowledge of,
although it does happen. Now, have I further muddied the waters and confused
your minds? Or has this clarified?

Student: Abraham, you are choosing to speak through somebody right now. Is that your preference or do you have other ways to communicate with people directly or indirectly?
Abraham: I am choosing this method with Ellanor because she allows it. If she did not I would attempt to perhaps use different methods, such as speaking to Ellanor through her friends, her family, perhaps through meditation where messages are felt rather than heard.
To speak through another is not uncommon. We have perfected this method over time. And I would agree that everyone here this evening is quite capable of using this particular method, whether there is willingness is another question. But I say those mortals who claim to have exclusive rights on this particular method of communication are not being truthful. All are capable and indeed welcome to experience this technique. It is a matter of willingness and trust and allowance on the part of the receiving mortal.
As time goes on this method of communication will appear
to be quite natural and not at all the phenomenon some proclaim it to be. Still
as this world progresses further into Light and Life this particular method of
transmitting/receiving will be outdated and unnecessary to reach the masses,
for the natural abilities of those who seek to live within the will of Father
will easily have all needed information at hand through the universal circuits
and the use of the cosmic mind.

Student: …I would like to know if what teacher Will said long ago is true, that it takes a certain chemical in the brain to become a transmitter.
Tar-al-hakim: Thank you. Yes, to [your] question, but I wish to say to you that you are always changing and you are always capable of change. There are no limitations that can not, if it is God’s will, be surmounted. It is no special demarcation upon an individual should that person, as your beloved T/R did, suddenly begin to speak our “language,” as you might put it. So my friend, you are concerned for your chemical imbalance, but I must think that you are equally concerned that you are not worthy, and fear that is why you hear not, see not, speak not.
What I wish to tell you, sir friend, you are making progress. …You chew on things. You worry, worry, worry. This you learned quite early. This you would gladly surrender. Let your gladness come through to me, and I will help you. It is no sign of your inferiority. It is no sign of your hopelessness in life that you have not heard your teacher speak to you in such a way as you can step forward with confidence and have him, or anyone else, speak through you, as I now speak through your beloved transmitter.

please, to surrender the burden of your life to us, so that you may demonstrate
the joy that is God’s gift to everyone, even in the most trying of planetary

It is important to remember that many people will never
hear a teacher’s voice within themselves. It is not the goal of the mission for
you to hear us. The goal of our mission is for you to receive our message,
receive God’s message through us. There are many ways of doing that. For some
it has been important that they are able to hear us so they may transmit our
message to others. Many people will find their place by listening to the
mission and incorporating it and by doing God’s will as opposed to hearing it
only…

It is in the stillness that these voices, my voice, the wisdom and experience of the teachers with whom I participate in bringing God’s love and words of light to your planet… it is in the stillness our voices may be recognized by you, and many others willing to listen. Still, it is no shame that some more readily recognize the separate and distinct vibration that guides the manifestation of our tongue, our language.
It is, therefore, a blessing that some should be so capable, and others should thereby develop their powers of listening. It is, you see, quite valuable to learn another tongue by listening. In the listening you learn how to transmit what is heard to others by your speaking. Your speaking may take its idiosyncratic expression.
This is quite necessary upon your planet, although the message is always the same, to love one another as you are loved, by your teachers, by Michael, Nebadonia, Father, Mother. God’s spirit of love is yours. You are such a multiplicity of life forms that it is well and good that you should have a multiplicity of methods of communication of this love.

ABRAHAM: Long stillness practice is to misuse your energy. Too long at stillness practice is to drain you of that energy that might be put to use through service. This meeting for example, during the first part of my lesson the words are fairly strong. Towards the end of our meeting the words are fewer and less understood by the transmitter/receiver. We recommend short stillness practice, because when you begin to always allow God to live your life with you, you will find you are always in somewhat of a stillness practice.

My observance this week has led me to put emphasis on this practice being as normal as possible. Before this world was thrown into rebellion and setbacks, many were evolving towards this practice. To transmit a teachers message would have been like taking a bath. This practice would be thought of as natural as breathing. I wish to dispel any mystical ideas my students may hold as far as the stillness goes. I am extremely pleased at your willingness to learn and this helps me teach by your questions. It is the format for your lessons.

Student: Getting more serious, and I am sure this is a curiosity question… Alana, [when speaking] through [another T/R] seems to have an accent. I did not feel that at all. Is that a difference of T/Rs, or is Alana able to speak however is necessary, I guess is my question?
Daniel: The analogy that comes to mind is that of the
sound reproduction that occurs with different stereo systems. The example,
however, could be unfortunate if an accent or a lack of accent be regarded as
good or bad. In other words, when Alana interacts with the [T/R name], the
translation in her neurological circuitry carries an accent. When Alana
interacts with you or [T/R name], that does not occur. It isn’t strictly Alana
or the T/R. It is the interaction. Do you understand? (Student: I understand
what you have said, and it does make sense, the two of them just combine to
make a different sound.)

journal, fill in the empty places. Your goal is to sit each day and wait. When
you remind yourself that you have not given that I-time to God, you increase
your discipline by listening to your own reasons and forgiving them.
Forgetfulness is the habit of non-communication. Continue to wait and listen,
we are here and giving you every benefit of our love. The doubt is yours to
pierce through like the airplane through the cloud that may tremble but does
not waver from its true course. We will help you overcome those moments of
doubt and fear and reluctance.

Abraham: My friend, I know how eagerly you pursue the goal of seeing and hearing your personal teacher. Therefore, I think that in your case your goal should be two-fold. The visual goal I suggest that you continue with, and that for the desire to hear you make use of a technique which was suggested for your spouse. At the same time I will tell you something that you may not agree with initially, (I have been appraised that you have had this said to you before), so this is not 100% new this evening. You lack faith in your own hearing, my friend. That is to say, you have heard and you are similar to this T/R who often doubts what he hears.
I also would suggest that along the auditory lines that you
attempt again to write on paper these things that enter your mind when you have
dedicated your mind to the will of God. Try to suspend all judgment about
what is being said as it is happening and do not read it with evaluation until
you have finished a thought, a phrase, a sentence, a paragraph, etc. Then look
at it afresh. Do these suggestions make sense to you?

The parameters are well known in quietness and relaxation. If you are so tired you will fall asleep, but no matter. And so you need to have the energy within the stillness to access the stream of sound waves and consolidated energies strung together like a fiber entwined in a golden rope of connectivity.
So, these things come together, melding into your unified
mind, body and spirit, in your relaxed energy state. And then, as you write
the question, proceed to write the answer. It will be easy enough for you to
listen to the quiet voice —our voices are very quiet— and to simply write the
answer as it comes to you. Write the question; write the answer.

It is so when your recording machine goes click, we
receive an impulse from the transmitter. In the beginning the
transmitter/receiver could not hold her attention on both things at once and
she often chose to allow us to continue to speak after the recorder clicked
off. Now she is capable even of turning the tape herself. So we hear you
through her, just as you hear me through her. It is all a matter of turning the
heart toward God and Love. The body will follow.

Yes, I want to talk to you about the question you have on your mind about transmitting in other languages. We can take the speech center of your brain and use those words in your mind that you have learned during your walk on this planet. That is to say, when your walk allowed you to learn other tongues, the tongues your neighbors speak, the tongue your parents spoke when you were small, the tongue that you acquired when you went on your journey to study other cultures. And, my friend, you have always been interested in others, in how others live, in how other cultures function on this planet. And this keen interest also supports you now… in finding out—stay with me a little bit longer; you can think about how you want to share this message later—this keen interest for others helps you now to find out about us, about other realms of existence, all together different from any you have encountered so far on your own planet Urantia. And, so, to help you with this information, my friend, yes, I, and other teachers can speak through you in those tongues that you have a command of. For example, I could not talk to you at this point in French. I could talk to you a little bit better in Dutch, because you have some command—meager as it may be—of that language. But, yes, we transmit, and you can receive, in German. And we may in the future experiment with Spanish. But notice how I said “experiment”, because you know yourself that you are experimenting at this point with that language, and you yourself expressed many times that you are not quite satisfied with how you can express yourself in that language.
So, my friend, my beloved, this being a practice session, I think you have reached the limits of your attention span. We have unlimited attention span, Mr. Practice. And I say, “we”, because the pattern of what I want to communicate, the pattern of my desire to bring support for your growth, and to those with whom you share my words, my friend, this pattern is carried to you with the help of what you have come to know as the midwayers. And this is not possible for me to explain to your human mind— so much kept prisoner by the limitations of living in time and material space. And, additionally, I do not myself understand all the ramifications of this wonderful, this, for you, mind-boggling opportunity to communicate from one realm to another.
My friend, I know you have been told that as the planet
progresses towards light and life, these communications become quite ordinary.
These communications are totally acceptable and normal and expected, so normal,
I might add, that no one even questions how they are made possible, or why they
occur, or why they are needed, or why they are given.

Oliver: So, hum, Alana, how did you like speaking German today?
Alana: My friend, this is the beginning of the joy that always awaited you in your yearning. For, as you continue to clear away those funny barriers, if I may be allowed to say, so the full expression of this experience you call T/R’ing may become familiar to you so as to realize your desire to be of loving service, and to bring to those of your birth land, and to those who speak only the native language into which you were born, the illumination that has been such a wonderful gift into your life, that which is called the Teaching Mission.
It is a pleasure for me, as well as you, to demonstrate that we are not limited “here”, but must use “there” where you are, the tools we are given. Which is to say, it could be possible, now and again, to place in the mind unfamiliar words, not part of the lexicon of the person, not practiced by that mind in the life experience. But this requires so much more than is necessary, when the simple response to the yearning call makes it so much more easily possible, and therefore available in the mind of one whose language patterns are already there. Yes? Do you understand what I am saying? Which is, Alana does not have to speak any particular language. Alana will speak through any language available, should that language pattern be brought to her in the yearning of the mind of one who yearns to hear her. Yes?
Oliver: This is a wonderful explanation. It expands what I have believed up ‘til now. There was a time when I thought you teachers would come to this world and would observe us, be with us for a long time, and in the process learn our language. It is so much more that you can use the patterns that are already in the speech center in the mind, in the physical make-up of a person, and you can use that and bring forth a full concept…somehow, I must say…because that mechanism is totally beyond my capacity to understand how that is possible.
Student: Alana speaks the language of love. (Oliver: Um-hum.)
Alana: Yes. And yes again. It is not I who must learn your language, but you who must learn mine. (Student: Yes. Exactly.)
Which, yes, beloved, is the language of love. And it appears that you, beloved Oliver, have needed first to learn in the language familiar to you as the language of the teachers. But it is not English that is so familiar to us, not English that must pass our messages on, but that English has had a popularity that allows for a delightful speed of dissemination. It is the language of love we speak, and to speak and to learn the language of love must first come the learning of humility of respect for love. This, my beloved, is the learning you have entered into, that has slowly allowed you to venture into a language that has often been used to express the most beautiful poetry and music of love, but yet, in your mind as well as others, has become associated with an arrogance of power that until now has prevented you from allowing me to speak freely to those in the language not only of your mother and your father, whose many words of love you have prevented from saturating your heart in those struggles and problems you and your human friends call the rebellion against authority in your drive toward individual growth, but also, my beloved, your mother and your father, as will I, spoke the language of poets and musicians, and so, it is, is it not, a new opening of the door of growth for you. And I have gladly stepped through that door with you. Given you my love to be shaped by these words of that language. Yes?

You are asking that I should verify the veracity of a
transmission and this I cannot do. All of the human participants in this
mission are sincere and fully committed to transmitting the highest
understanding they can conceive. That being said, all transmissions contain
some elements of the transmitter. None are completely free from human input.
You, therefore, must discern for yourself what resonates truth for you at this
time. The transmissions are always some mixture of the word, thought, image
transmitted and the receptor’s interpretation of it. The beauty of this is
profound, in that every person involved must actively and continually use their
own discernment of truth for each transmission. As I have said many times, all
things with human input contain some measure of human error. This includes even
such icons as the Bible, and The Urantia Book. Therefore, my son, rely
on the Spirit of Truth which guides you yourself, not on the discernment of
another being. Be at peace, my son, for you do know truth. Dwell within it. Follow
it, and you will be fine.

I appreciate your attempt to question the accuracy and validity of the transmission done by this T/R. It is a most important point that you each view these transmissions as full of potentials for truth inspiration in your hearts and minds, and yet you humbly recognize their potential to also contain confusion or inaccuracies because of the human limitations of those who sincerely attempt to transmit our words. Your responsibility in this process is to explore our teachings so as to discover what of our words can inspire your heart in faith, sharpen your understanding of your sonship with the Father, increase your insight into majesty of God’s power manifesting in your lives, solicit your soul to further develop in the light of truth, beauty, and goodness, and develop attunement with the Master as your guide, protector, and model of inspiration, in your path back to the Father.
I hope you will continue to grant us an opportunity to be
a component of your spiritual studies, and that this one point of contention
that you had with my commentary will not set you on a course which avoids
further contact with Teaching Mission material. I applaud your long-standing
and loyal commitment to the Urantia Book, and hope you will see our
ministry as a loving service to augment the beauty and wisdom which the book

…You are right to understand that we use your own personalities to get the messages across. Since you have learned the lesson about being aware of wishful thinking, now maybe you understand the reality of what’s happening a little more clearly. We don’t mind your personality being a part of how we say something, just make sure that the message itself is clear. That is our only concern, not for our own sakes. Our own being is made manifest in service.
For all I care, the personality of Black Bart, the riverboat gambler, could be transmitting a message. Hiss the villain, but don’t hiss the message because of the messenger. Yes, acceptance! A good one-word-subject title. It really takes faith to look for the good in everything, but that is the truest mark of a son or daughter of the Highest.
…If you would know the validity of a message, why just look within the content and context of the message itself. If love, faith and service are themes that are echoed in an upbeat positive, loving, exhorting manner, that message is genuine. If, on the other hand, it deals with self, unfulfilled dreams and desires, then watch out!
…Look at the great abundance of what God has given—and
still gives you. Look very carefully for the motive behind any message, then
decide. You’ll not be penalized if you reject any message that suggests
revenge, retaliation or any motive that does not arise out of the pure love of
God.

ABRAHAM: There will come a time when all transmitters will stumble and fall short. Your best transmission would be from your own Indwelling Father. That is who you should put your faith and trust in. All transmitters will fall short. No one transmitter is entirely accurate. You are to each rekindle your flame with your own Indwelling Father through your memories of being re-born in Spirit. You can trust your own inner guidance if you feel it is from a standpoint of doing the will of our Father for Father's glory.
To communicate with others is also an anchor in the sea of unknowing. To guard against irrational thinking, or to guard against fanatical thinking, or irrational actions, it is wise to have communication with your fellows, and a amount of time to ponder over those things you feel you received.

our Mission is to have mortals have better contact with their Indwelling

Loraina: Hi Rebecca. Remember when we were all being taught to transmit? (Yes) And during that time there was a lot of confusion… I remember the feeling, the conversations about ... ‘was this real—was I making it up?’ and all of that. And did you go through some of that personally when you were beginning the transmissions? (Um…) Could you tell… I never could actually distinguish my mind, very clearly, from my teacher Danielle—so I did end up dropping out, basically, and I’d like to come back to it and I’d love some guidance?
Rebecca: Yes. I guess everybody has to have their own
criteria as what makes it real for them. I would just sit there and wait for
one word at a time to come, for the longest time. One word would come and it
would repeat, and I would say it. The next word would come, and I wouldn’t be
sure, and it would repeat until I said it. Then next word, etc. It was just
like that. I mean, you remember how slow it was! It would take us an hour to
get a paragraph, and sometimes even a sentence. It was because I was really
unsure and I wanted to put the burden on Ham, you know, that it wasn’t on me to
just ‘try’ to get it right, I wanted him to make sure that I got it right.

The big psyche stirrer and heart thumper for the transmitter can be the human ears. You hear a question, there is a brief panic for you have no idea what your answer could be. The human hearing must not draw this response, and have faith in the teacher with whom you are bonded. As we learn to stay within in the calm and receptive state, the question is answered in stride, specific or not. Listeners often ask specific questions on purpose, and transmitters must have all senses attuned to the Spirit in order to provide the specificity. In my first years as transmitter, this was difficult; practice makes… not perfect but efficient.
How many times I have been referenced (in the T/R capacity) as a “little radio station” or “my equipment”! How many times it has been suggested that “our animal (nature)” needs to respond to our command: “heel!” It’s been called “lion training” and all manner of “ignoble” comparisons, but it’s true that we need to learn how to remove the body as an obstacle to transmission and “align it as an antenna”. That’s a great phrase. Thanks Elyon.
It is always a treat to hear from Jack [a midwayer]. He
seldom comes through but when he does, it’s grand. I’ve developed a perspective
on him. He chided me once for loving him too much, and said that kind of
adoration is to be reserved for the Master, so I’ve curtailed my emotionality.
Emotion, too, it would seem, can be an obstacle to transmission, and if I seek
to be of service in this T/R’ing, I need to be as near an antenna (during the
process) as I can become. Which precludes having an emotional reaction to
whoever I am transmitting. But, yeah, it’s always great to hear from Jack and
I, too, enjoyed his impassioned speech.

Working with celestials is a co-creative process that is barely acknowledged as such, much less understood. It is a blending of mindal and spiritual energies.
The human involvement is not something that should be feared, but rather embraced. Instead of fearing their mind's involvement, T/Rs should concentrate on purifying their mind so that the conduits will be open and clean.
Amazing how many people don't trust their own mind. They
think they will fool themselves. With that very thought, they prove it.

I know words must come through our mindal constructs and preconceptions, and slight alterations can occur at times, which skew the meaning when a word yearned for becomes substituted. This is possible to occur.
I would just like to add to this tread that at the beginning of the Teaching Mission here in Kona, Hawaii (1992), our teachers, Sigel, Aflana and Norson, told us that we should be unafraid to share our transmissions even though they might not be perfect or even real communications from the teachers. They told us that the most important thing we could be doing was practicing communicating with them and our Thought Adjusters. That this practice would eventually lead us to true communications with the Teachers and our Adjuster and that no harm would come from sharing these early tries at T/R’ing.
Another part of this early lesson was that the words were not important, but like our prayers, it was the sincerity and desire to do our Father’s will that really counted!
Therefore, I have always felt it would be okay to share whatever one received as long as one did so in sincerity and in the spirit of service to Michael.
Many misunderstandings and criticisms could be avoided if
more folks understood these original instructions.

Since there is no hierarchy or list-ops screening things, it is a flock shoot of sharing here, as well as our most sincere service at T/R’ing and posting our instructors’ transmissions.
Surely we’d all agree that we are still in the awkward stages of newness in this Mission. If I were to transmit to all, for instance, that Adam and Eve are landing in SLC at the closing ceremonies of the Olympics, and say that I got it straight from the Source... that wouldn’t mean it is truth, even if posted here on what has become termed our Teaching Mission List (tml).
In our first days in this Mission, we had such type of transmissions coming through even in our little Utah group, in our T/R’ing. I would imagine it is still a propensity. Abraham called it self wish-fulfillment, and yes, we had the best of intentions.
So, as you say, lets keep on sharing what we feel to, but buyer beware—so to speak—sometimes our humanness gets in the way.

I was touched by Rebecca's remarks about how transmitting showed her how loving the teachers really are, compared to us. I have had the exact same experience with LinEL. Having his love come out towards someone I had my struggles with was a powerful recommendation for wanting to be like LinEL. And I still really do, but am just nowhere in the ballpark yet! He and other teachers are really superb role models!! Feeling their feelings inside me has been a lesson about love that I really don't think I would have had without that contact.

…I agree with you that midwayers are always involved in our T/Ring communications. It seems they are an essential part of “down-stepping” the communication from our teachers. At least, that is my understanding from Olfana.
However, I have never yet had any Midwayer identified for me when I T/R. I would say that the only personality presence that I am aware of is the teacher. That is my experience over the past eight years, although other T/Rs, including Sandy, may have a different experience.
Also, I would say that the other teachers often identify who is speaking, rather than “always.” I have had occasional experiences where teachers spoke through me, but did not identify themselves by name. I still felt a personality with the voice, but I was not aware of who was speaking.
I just
wanted to add these points for those who are new to the Teaching Mission, and
still learning that there are definitely variations in how people experience
T/Ring.

I’ve had pretty much the same experience T/R’ing as Susan. I have on occasion T/Red midwayers, but they almost never identify themselves when they are operating as communication facilitators, mostly only when they are personally giving messages.
Also, I, too, have found that it is not at all uncommon for a teacher to transmit messages without giving their name. Individual group teachers and personal teachers usually do, but somewhat often visiting teachers don’t always offer their name unless asked, and even then sometimes they choose not to give their name. Anyway, that’s my experience since ‘93.
The only thing I can add to this discussion is that in T/R’ing, the T/R is a channel in the sense that s/he has willingly allowed the body and mind to receive a message and transmit it. As I understand it, many of the channelers of the last centuries and into this one, are in a trancelike state and have little consciousness of what is going on within them. They have no awareness of the messages and have to read or hear them just like all who might want to partake of the message. They do not know what is going on while they are sharing the message. In T/Ring, the T/R has an awareness of the process.
In my T/Ri’ng experience, I have full awareness that the process is taking place. For some folks, it is a word for word process as they await them from the entity providing them. For others (me included), it is a “co-creative process” in which thoughts, concepts, even specific phrases are provided by the entity but the T/R must use the mind to come up with the expression.
And furthermore, there is a distinct sense of “otherness or presence” in the process. I must be in alpha state of mind for this to happen which is not a deep state of mind but one in which one is approaching the meditative state…
In other words, I pay attention to the process and lend myself willingly to allow my mind to be used. I have learned how to approach it, obtain contact, and proceed. I can stop it at any given moment! I am in control of this process in terms of speaking or not. I do not fully understand how the midwayers or the entities make their connections but I do know how I participate as a thinking person in control of all my faculties.
Am I a channel? Yes. Am I a T/R? Yes. What’s the difference? I don’t know. Maybe it is just the stigma of calling it channeling which brings up all kinds of denial in those who won’t accept the possibilities of communicating between different levels of existence. Maybe T/R’ing is fast becoming just as stigmatized. I won’t worry about it. It is a useful process for me and those who wish to seek it as a method of seeking and learning. And I am grateful that I am not stigmatized by it as well as the useful spiritual insights (gifts) obtained through it. I know a whole lot more about love and loving now than before the experiences began for me!

Before I met the Urantia Book in 1988, I had no interest whatsoever in exploring channeling, nor did I have much of an opinion about it, one way or another. I did not consider myself a gullible person and often was the skeptic or “challenger”. I was taught at an early age to think for myself rather than accept anything on face value or recommendation. If I didn’t explore something, I could easily let it fall into the “I don’t know” category and stay there. As a professional scientist (clinical microbiology), I did not have much of a history of seeking into the realms of paranormal experiences. This is not to say that I was not a believer in higher powers or non-religious in my practices, however. Exploring science only led me to deepen my belief in a creator worthy of awe.
When circumstances led me to exposure to the potential of hearing from Celestials existing in another realm, I had no preconceived notions. I was willing to explore the process. It was not an easy thing for me to do because I resisted teacher contacts out of great fear that whatever might come through me would be admixed with my own thought which could well be erroneous. Much of it was and still may be.
Eventually, I saw that the method was simply a tool for communication. All communications between imperfect beings are flawed. There are checks and balances built into the system. We have many protections from being led astray, if we are to believe the Urantia Book’s teachings or even that of many other more well known and highly regarded sources. We have the Spirit of Truth, our own still small voice and Jesus’ promise of being always with us, etc. And our experience in seeking the truth of these promises should deepen our faith that we cannot be led astray!

Apparently each of us who receive are “different” I do not know what that means, but the methods of receiving that I am aware of are:
1) Clairaudient. A person actually “hears” the message, it has a noticeable accent.
2) Thought Transmission. Thoughts appear in the brain. Receiver cannot easily discern his/her thoughts from received thoughts, as there is no “accent” to distinguish them. This seems to be the most common method.
3) Automatic Writing. Person holds a pen, and it writes. Writing often has a distinctive style, associated with the spirit. Some people have to “assist” the pen, others report the pen has it’s own life. Some “think” the words at the same time as writing. Some folks are able to do this at the computer keyboard, instead of a pen.
4) Trance. Person speaks the message. Some limited personality can be discerned. May be conscious of message or unconscious. Perhaps if it is total consciousness the word trance is not useful.
5) Materialization. I am only aware of VERY short messages physically materializing. Still requires a mortal with ectoplasm to effect, but the mortal does not, as far as I am aware have the message passed through their mind. I could be wrong. The message just appears on paper, as an example. (I will not comment on the Urantia Book. :-) )
6) Soul receipt. This is my own definition, based on personal experience. I know others have received in the same way. Information “floods in”, and seems soft, unbounded, without end. As you try to interpret it, it fades. My conclusion is that the soul is capable of receiving information in a non-symbolic fashion, but of course the mind uses symbols. In fact I think that only the soul can understand absolute Truth, the mind is aways going to be limited by it’s symbols.

Having been involved with the Teaching Mission for ten years now, I would strongly disagree with you about the statement, that “many in the Teaching Mission make a big point of stating that T/Ring is a totally different phenomenon.” I would say that “some,” not “many” Teaching Mission participants feel that T/R’ing and channeling are different phenomena. I would say that there is a diversity of opinions on this topic. If anything, I would say that the majority of TeaM participants are inclined to say that they feel this communication process with the teachers is rather mysterious, varied for individuals, and not easily analyzed.
In my own opinion, the word “channeling” is so charged with emotional reactions for people, that there is no one objective definition of the word, when we use it in our discussions. Perhaps the same issue holds true for the word “T/R’ing,” at this point, certainly this word holds an emotional charge for many in the Urantia community.
This apprehension of T/Rs is very much the way I perceive what has been called the “spiritual dimension of reality.” This is the reason I “scratch my head” when I see any of us attempting to deeply analyze the T/R’ing process, as if we can dissect and identify it’s parts and procedures. When debates occur about what is “channeling” versus “T/R’ing”, what means the Teachers use to convey their messages, what brain waves are utilized, etc., I am usually amused at the way we can seem so certain of what we supposedly understand of all of this.
I do not feel that the best way to understand any of this is with some sharply defined, logical analysis. Too much of what occurs has to do with “values and meanings” for each unique individual. Ultimately, we must be our own arbiters for the “truth” of these transmissions.
Perhaps, someday some scientific study can be made of the brain wave functions of a variety of people who feel they are T/R’ing. To my knowledge, that hasn’t been done yet. Even with that study, I do not feel we will have the full picture of how this process occurs. Many Teachers, through many T/R’s, have said that midwayers assist in this process of making a connection to the human mind. Unless we can get some of these midwayers to cooperate in our scientific studies, I doubt we will ever fully understand how this process of teacher communication occurs. :-)
If someone wants to hook T/R’s up to an EEG machine, let me know. I will probably volunteer.

I think the long and the short of it is that “mediumship” and “channeling” are charged words, and I well know that many Urantia readers defend their “belief” on the basis that it is not channeled…
My conclusion is that you may be very wise to use a different words. And I even think it possible that this was a deliberate ploy when Urantia was “received” as it was right at the time that Houdini had attacked the entire “channeling” industry. No doubt there were charlatans, but he single-handedly closed it down for a generation or more.
Editor’s note: Our respected Urantia-Book pioneer Dr. William Sadler is said to have engaged in debunking, together with the magician Thurston. We can choose to discuss the merits of one method over another, but it is my hope, and I pray, that we will be able to get comfortable living in a world that is evidently bathed in revelation. The circuits are open. The spiritual “pressure” from above can now enter into every open mind and every truly seeking heart on this spiritually needy planet. Our teachers and guides are not merely active in our small, albeit ever growing movements, they are “working” to bring a greater revelation of a personally accessible God wherever and whenever they sense and discover open-hearted truthseekers.
We will have our first meeting in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on August 19, 2001 where we will celebrate the birth of Jesus and share a supper of remembrance and pot luck togetherness.
Our dear Karen Anderson (of Brookfield Connecticut) was at the Snowbird TeaM Conference where she attended Gerdean’s workshop. It was there that she asked Teacher Tomas why there was no TM group in the North East. Teacher Tomas told her that she would be going home with a teacher.

getting together to celebrate Jesus’ Birthday. There are eight of us (very

I forgot one more piece of advice... which is that the teacher doesn’t always come through the person you think they’re going to come through. You folks have been assigned a teacher, but they aren’t just working with one of you, but with all of you who choose to be involved.
It may come through Karen just fine, but all of you might want to tune in just in case the teacher can connect easier or more clearly through another. Many groups have had multiple T/Rs. The first group I was in took quite a while to get going because we were waiting for another person to t/r, when finally one night I got knocked on the head to go and t/r at the group.
I later found out that three people in the group were getting contacted, but no one was stepping forward because we were waiting for one person to do it... (sigh!) Thank God the teachers were persistent. <smile>
If I were to offer any thoughts to her from my experiences, it would be to try to downplay any pressure and simply open up your hearts to the possibility of receiving through stillness and prayer. If it happens, great... if it doesn’t, try again. Persistence pays off.

I had no idea Tomas told Karen she would go home with a teacher. This is one of the peculiar things about transmitting. You see it happening in a part of the brain but it isn’t a conscious part until somebody jiggles your memory and even then there is no guarantee the t/r can recall the message that was just delivered through their own mouth. Obviously, I am thrilled.
This is a new Mission tentacle reaching out and clasping you in our community embrace. We are in service to you, brothers and sisters, as you learn this new communication skill and we celebrate with you as you reap the rewards of this incredible and intimate relationship with your spirit and morontia fellows.
